What is coagulation test PT and INR?

Coagulation INR is also called PT-INR clinically, PT is the prothrombin time, and INR is the international standard ratio. PT-INR is a laboratory test item and one of the indicators for testing blood coagulation function, which has important reference value in clinical practice.

The normal range of PT is 11s-15s for adults, and 2s-3s for newborns. The normal range of PT-INR for adults is 0.8-1.3. If anticoagulant drugs, such as warfarin sodium tablets, are used, the range of PT-INR is recommended to be controlled at 2.0-3.0 to achieve an effective anticoagulant effect. Warfarin sodium tablets are commonly used clinical anticoagulants for the treatment of deep vein thrombosis or thrombotic disease caused by atrial fibrillation, valvular disease, pulmonary embolism, etc. PT-INR is an important index to evaluate the coagulation function in the body, and it is also the basis for doctors to adjust the dose of warfarin sodium tablets. If the PT-INR is too high, it indicates an increased risk of bleeding. If the PT-INR level is too low, it may indicate the risk of blood clots.

When testing PT-INR, it is generally necessary to take venous blood. This method does not have a clear fasting requirement, and patients do not need to care whether they can eat or not. After the blood is drawn, it is recommended to use a sterile cotton swab to stop the bleeding, so as to avoid excessive PT-INR levels, poor coagulation will cause subcutaneous bruising.
